Stoptober: How Much Did You Save?

Stoptober Logo

This isn't going to be a a public service announcement, although I do see myself somewhat as a moral entrepreneur, I think smoking is a personal lifestyle choice and I respect the liberties we have been given in this country.

You might think it a bit odd that I'm talking about Stoptober in Novermber. Well, I think that those who took part need to appreciate the hard work they've done (well done, quitting smoking is not easy) and smokers need to be reminded that they can quit any time regardless of whether the government is encouraging them to do so or not.

Smoking is a terrible habit for your wallet, £7.77 is the average cost for a packet of 20 cigarettes in the UK (Office of National Statistics, May 2013), if we assume the average smoker smokes 13 cigarettes a day (2011 General Lifestyle Survey), those who took part in Stoptober will have saved around £157. If they gave up for an entire year, they could save around £1,843! Imagine what you could do with that extra money; holiday, entire new wardrobe, car? It's amazing what we are willing to spend our money on without even really weighing up the costs.

Did you know that in the film Toy Story, Sid's hallway carpet is the same design as the hallway carpet in The Shining? That's well creepy.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeres Jonny!
